Mobile Phone Contract Comparison - 5 Handy Tips

It's a shame that the industry doesn't produce literature to help us all when it comes to mobile phone contracts.

What we could do with is a comparison chart in each high street mobile phone store but depending on who is behind what advertising, I don't think we'd have a very unbiased opinion.

To help you decide which mobile phone contract to consider I've come up with 5 handy tips that I wish someone had given me before I spent hours searching!

1. Be careful how long you take a contract out for. What is probably a very good deal now will surely be surpassed in time. It would be a shame if you tied yourself into too long a deal and therefore missed out on an even better one later on. Standard mobile phone contracts run for 12 or 18 months.

2. Your existing mobile phone number is in how many other people's contact menu? Think carefully about the advantages of keeping your existing number when you come to take out a new contract. You'll still want to be contactable won't you, but without having to let everyone know (officialdom aswell as friends & family) that your numbers changed! If you can transfer your existing number enquire about any charges that may be involved.

3. What is the signal strength for each network provider in your area? Is there any regular maintenance works going on at any provider's masts near you? Ask family, friends and colleagues about how happy they are with their reception. This alone could help you decide who to go with, or more importantly who not to go with. Don't blindly stick with who you've always been with. If you've got no signal you may aswell have no phone.

4. Do look around for the actual phone that you really want. Some contracts may seem good but the phone available with that particular offer may not be to your liking. It may be the wrong size, colour etc. The price might be right, but you'd always be stuck with a phone that you didn't really want. So have the phone you want in mind before you get assistants quoting unsuitable offers at you.

5. Last but not least, when making mobile phone contract comparisons is the cost! By that I mean the true cost that has to be taken into account, not just the monthly line rental cost. Does your deal include free insurance?, A free handset?, Free texts or low rates during peak calling hours? If it doesn't then how much will you be paying for these? Remember it all mounts up. Look into this very carefully as you don't want a mobile phone that you can't afford to use!

I hope that this mobile phone contract comparison saves you from taking out a contract that you could live to regret!
