So you need to check your IP address, for whatever reason. Maybe you're playing an online game with a friend, or you need to access your PC remotely. Whatever the reason, there are a number of different ways you can check your IP address.

One of the easiest ways is to run an "ipconfig" command in dos prompt. You can access a DOS prompt from windows by hitting start, then run, and typing cmd in the run box. A MS-DOS dialog box will appear. Try typing "ipconfig" in this window.

This will come back with the IP of your computer. However, if you are running a home network or an office network, this will only give you your local IP. This is the IP that has been assigned to you by your router or hub. If you want to check your external IP (which is the one used to connect to your computer or local network) then you need to access your router settings, usually accessed by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser (or whatever local IP your router has been assigned. Usually, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0 will be your default gateway IP. "Default gateway IP" meaning your router, as your router is used as your gateway for accessing the Internet).

After you've brought up your router information page (and logged in, which is sometimes required), look for a status page, and your "WAN IP." This IP is the IP assigned to your router as your external IP for your incoming traffic.

Now, should you need to check your external IP and you can't access your router, you could use an IP checker on the Internet. A simple Google or Yahoo search for "IP checker" will give you a list of sites that use an easy script to tell you your IP. There is also certain programs in Windows that will give you this result. Rebooting a Windows XP Computer Using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)

We are frequently involved in projects with small and medium sized organisations. Due to the size of these organisations often the network infrastructure available is limited as a result of smaller budgets than their larger competitors. One side effect of this reduced budget is that our clients sometimes need hardware and software to function in ways it is not exactly designed for.

One example of this is often not being able to afford the licence fee for Windows Server and instead to use Windows XP Professional or even Windows XP Home to run a central file, print or database server. Clearly this approach would not work for a Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but can be used for many other types of server and there are times where there is no other option.

There are two usability downsides to be aware of for remote administration when taking the decision to use Microsoft Windows XP instead of Windows Server.

The first is that Windows XP Professional when accessed through Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connections does not display a log off button or a reset option on the shutdown - the only option is to shut down the server which is not ideal and will mean that it won't restart afterwards; this can be solved.

The simplest way to overcome the problem is to create a batch file to restart the server, to do this:

1. Open Notepad (or another text editor)

2. Type: shutdown -r -t 5

3. Save the file somewhere sensible (such as the desktop) with a name such as restart.bat, the important thing is it ends with the extension of .bat

To run the file just double click it, the switches in the shutdown command are:

-r = restart (instead of shutdown)
-t 5 = the amount of time to wait before restarting in seconds - in this case 5 secs.

The second issue is that terminal services functionality available to facilitate remote administration through tools such as RDP is only sufficient to allow one user to log on at a time. Response Time: This is important especially for gaming and movies, this is the amount of time it takes for the monitor to refresh, the lower the response time the better. If your monitor's response time is low, or you have an older LCD computer monitor, you've probably experienced some ghosting, ghosting is where the images end up sort of being mashed together between frames. You'll see what's left over of the previous frame in the current frame, and can get irritating if it happens often.

Brightness: The brightness is emitted light power over a specific area on the monitor, the higher the brightness the better. Most monitors have over 200 cd/m2 which is sufficient for normal use.

Connectivity: Connectivity is important, because it will determine how your monitor is going to connect to your computer, most newer monitors have DVI connectivity, while older LCD monitors will have VGA port connectivity. Many of our basic activities from walking along the fairway or simply picking up a golf ball occur one leg at a time. For many golfers there are times in which one has to stabilize on one leg. For example trying to make a technical shot from the rough, you have to stabilize in the lower body, especially if you want to nail it with any accuracy. To improve ones stability in the ankle, knee, and hip, it is necessary to become stronger on a single leg, this will lead to stronger and more stable hips. The anterior reach is one of the finest exercises to accomplish these goals. This single leg exercise trains the core muscles on the back of the body especially the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back muscles. All of which tend to be weak on many deconditioned golfers.

Here's how to perform the Anterior Reach

1) Begin on standing on one leg, draw your navel inwards, slight bend at the knee
2) Using your opposite arm reach forward bending at the hips, touching an object can use a water bottle or cone.
3) Stand back to the starting position. You should feel this in legs, especially the glutes.

There are several different variations of the anterior reach. Yet start with the basic version as described above. Remember to use good technique, and form. After a few workouts then start to progress by using an unstable surface, holding a dumbbell, or reaching towards different objects. What is a loopback test?

A loopback test is a hardware or software method which feeds a received signal or data back to the sender. It is used as an aid in debugging physical connection problems.

Fiber optic transceiver loopback test

Fiber optic transceiver is the fundamental part in any fiber optic communication network equipment. Its function is exactly the same as your computer's Ethernet Card. (although almost all modern computers integrate it on the motherboard, not as a separate PCI card anymore)

Fiber optic transceiver has two ports, a transmitter port and a receiver port. The transmitter port sends out laser signal to a linked transceiver and the receiver port receives laser signal from the other transceiver.

On fiber optic transceiver manufacturing floors and in R&D labs, we usually use a fiber optic loopback module to verify the transceiver is working perfectly as designed instead of using another transceiver as its partner.

Basically what the loopback module does is directly routing the laser signal from the transmitter port back to the receiver port. Then we can compare the transmitted pattern with the received pattern to make sure they are identical and have no error.

What types of loopback modules are available?

The most popular types of fiber optic loopback modules are SC, LC and MTRJ connector types. But each connector type is divided again by fiber type, connector polish type and attenuation.

Fiber Types

Each connector type is available for three fiber types. They are 50/125um multimode, 62.5/125um multimode and 9/125um single mode.

Connector Polish Types

Only PC polish is available for multimode type fibers. But for single mode fiber, two connector polish types are available: UPC polish and APC polish.

Working Wavelength

In addition to fiber type, working wavelength is the other important factor for choosing the correct fiber optic loopback module for your specific application. Available wavelengths are 850nm, 1310nm and 1550nm. 850nm and 1310nm are for multimode applications and 1550nm is for single mode applications.

Attenuation

You can specify how the signal power level should be reduced in the loopback path. This is because the receiver port cannot handle very high power. And in real life fiber optic network, there are always attenuations introduced by fibers, equipment and physical environment. So the transmitter power is attenuated to a safe level through the network before reaching the other receiver.

However since you are routing the transmitter directly back to the receiver, attenuation usually must be added to protect the receiver.

How much attenuation should be added depends on your transceiver type and you must decide it by yourself. Fortunately, there are a wide range of attenuation options available from 0dB, 1dB, 2dB to 24dB or even more.

With regards to outerwear, comfort is a combination of the garment's fit (construction), fabric softness, quietness (this is important in two ways discussed later), and the breath ability of the waterproof membrane.

So, the question is, when you are standing at the retail rack and comparing garments, how do you choose one over another that will do what you want?

Water proofness

One issue is to know when a garment is water proof enough. Clearly if you are going to spend the majority of the day in foul weather, this is and important issue! Most of the more technical garments are constructed from membrane fabrics which are tested to a waterproof test. This is usually reported in millimeters of holdout. The last piece of the puzzle is aesthetic in nature. In the past, most garments in this area of performance were stiff and loud. That is because the only materials able to deliver the ultra high breath ability and holdout were Teflon(R) based. We all know how slippery Teflon(R) is because we all have a skillet utilizing this marvelous stuff. However, it takes a lot of glue to bond something that slippery to a fabric and therefore the stiffness. 3. Permanent Adhesive: Permanent adhesive cartridges work the same way as repositionable cartridges but the stickers aren't designed to be moved or removed. Permanent adhesive cartridges are great for creating packaging, labels and for the customization of hard cover books.

4. High Tack Adhesive: Again these cartridges work the same way as the other two adhesive cartridges. However, Hi tac or hi-tack cartridges utilize a more aggressive adhesive that is designed to last longer and adhere better. This is a great option for labels and other materials that might get a lot of use.

5. Laminate / Adhesive Cartridges: Sometimes you want to laminate one side of the document and apply an adhesive to the other side. In order to do this you will need laminate / adhesive cartridge. This cartridge will have either a gloss or matte laminate on one side and will apply one of the three different types of adhesive to the other side.

6. Magnet Cartridges: A few of the Xyron Creative Station laminators have the option to accept a magnet cartridge. This cartridge laminates one side of your document or item while applying a magnet to the back of the item.

Its amazing that the small community of Douglas, Wyoming hosts the State Fair each year in mid August. This town usually contains only 5,000 people, but when fairtime rolls around that number swells. The new tenant called this morning, before I was in the office. He was very polite.

So, I called the tenant back. "My guy insists he changed the locks, and his paperwork says he did. I have not known him to lie to me, but..."

The tenant cut me off; "I spoke to my wife again. I am out of town on business, and she was home last night. She had told me that. I called her back, and now she says that she heard something at the door and opened it. The old tenant was there, key in hand. The old tenant said she was coming back to get some stuff that she had left, but evidently she did not actually come into the apartment. She was apparently trying the key to see if it worked."

I told the tenant to call the police, and I gave him the names of the old tenants, and their current address. I also made a note in their file about it and we will report it in the future to anyone who asks. This is a very upscale property in a very nice neighborhood. I am quite surprised by this; I would not have picked these people to try something like that. But then, you never know.
